And all of a sudden, it’s October!

We don’t know about you but we’re very glad that it’s officially autumn! Summer was lovely, but September is a tricky month, you never know what jacket to wear or what to put on your feet in the morning! But October is very different, as soon as those calendars turn the page, we’re officially in the final quarter of the year, it’s ok to get the chunky knits back out and talk about lighting the fire in the evening, and we love it!

We see a big change in the shop in October too, customers definitely start thinking and talking about buying for Christmas and we can’t seem to keep enough calendars or diaries in stock! So, although others may be starting to think ahead to December and into the New Year, we thought we’d share a little autumn appreciation post and show you some of our favourites buys for warming up your home this autumn.

So, you may not be lucky enough to have an actual roaring fire in your living room, but nothing creates a bit of warmth like candles. Scented candles, to be precise. It’s amazing how drawing the curtains and lighting some candles can instantly make a room feel much cosier. We highly recommend Wax Lyrical Candles, who are based in Cumbria. Next year they’ll be celebrating 40 years of business, which is a lot of years of candle making knowledge! Our favourite range is the fired earth collection, which features tea inspired luxury perfumes. The Emperor’s Red Tea Candle fragrance is oriental notes of rose pepper and red tea on a base of precious woods and vanilla. The addition of patchouli essential oil gives this sophisticated fragrance a rich and earthy heart, perfect for a cold evening! The Fired Earth tile design packaging is also very stylish and contemporary and sure to add some effortless autumnal warmth to any décor.

One way to ensure your home stays warm at this time of year is to invest in a decent draught excluder for any exterior doors that open into living spaces. Our favourite and most popular draught excluder by a country mile is the Dora Designs Highland Cow Draught Excluder. And we’re sure if you take a look at it, you’ll see why… Like it’s brother Angus the door stop, this piece is made of beige brocade fabric with faux fur and velveteen trim, but instead of one characterful coo – there’s six of them all in a row!

However, if cows are not your thing, what could be more autumnal the humble hedgehog? Fresh soft furnishings are sure to provide some snuggly softness for your sofa, and this Shruti Fell Hedgehog Cushion is our favourite. The design features a curious hedgehog sizing up a little snail and it’s backed with a vibrant, on-trend yellow. Blankets and throw overs are another very practical purchase right now, as they can add a refreshing pop of colour to your couch, whilst also being very useful. This Ombre Blanket fades from cream to navy and is luxuriously soft, perfect for pulling over yourself when you need a bit of comfort and heat, whilst looking stylish too.

Last, but definitely not least, and sure to warm your heart as well as your hands – we have to show you these Emma Bridgewater mugs, which you may have already seen featured on our Instagram – nothing says Autumn quite like the Halloween Sponge wear and Pheasant Feather designs on the classic half pint mug, new for 2019 – perfect for a sizable hot chocolate or chai latte!

We hope that this has provided you with some ideas of how to welcome the new season into your home, let’s all agree to get Halloween out of the way before we go all out Christmas crazy! If you’re feeling inspired and would like to see more, pop over to our Autumn Warmers collection on the website.
