The Square Peg - About Us

When you visit the Square Peg – our friendly collection of shops in Argyll on the West Coast of Scotland, you will be greeted with a warm and welcoming smile. We have two gift shops, a toy shop, a sandwich bar and a card shop – so you can browse to your heart’s content and find that perfect little treat for yourself or a loved one!

The Square Peg has grown to occupy one side of Colchester Square in Lochgilphead over the last 35 years. We are Andrew and Jilly and we bought the business in 2006 and started to trade online in 2010. Lisa Cross came on board in 2011 to help us run the website. Along with all of our other staff, our 8 year old son William, our 4 year old border terrier Elvis and Lisa’s 2 year old miniature sausage dog Winnie, our office is a busy and entertaining place!

So what shops will you discover when you visit the Square Peg?

No. 5 and No.11

These are our two gift shops, where we specialise in providing quirky, sweet, charming and fun gifts – many of them locally made. At No.5 you will find beauty products, pottery, glass, fine jewellery, scarves, wood turnings, hats and much more from brands like Jersey Pottery, Highland Stoneware, Arran Aromatics, Crabtree and Evelyn, Ulster Weavers and Azeti Homewares.

In our second gift shop at No.11 you will find even more fun and quirky treasures such as hand crafted art tiles, diaries, confectionery and preserves – featuring designs from Waldo Pancake, Lesley Gerry and The Bright Side Collection.

The Toy Shop

This colourful shop is a wee child’s paradise, with traditional and modern toys that will inspire the imagination! We have a great selection of children’s books, games, puzzles, Bruder trucks and plush animals from Charlie Bears, Schaefer, Ty UK and Jellycat. Send your little one in with a handful of change and let them choose something from our pocket money toy selection.

The Card Shop

Looking for that sweet and meaningful card for a special occasion? Whether it is a birthday, an anniversary, a Christmas greeting, a thank you, a condolence, or any other reason – you will find a beautiful card here. Our card shop has a great selection of greeting cards, gift wrap and party products from some wonderful companies.

The Sandwich Bar

After you have worked up an appetite from all of that shopping, you can satisfy your hunger at our Sandwich Bar. We serve home-baking, hot and cold rolls, freshly made sandwiches and Rainforest Alliance approved and organic Tikki coffee.
