… and how could we not when we have a view like this from No. 5?!  This is Loch Gilp and we are situated on the north shore.  Originally a herring fishing town, Lochgilphead is in the very heart of Argyll and from our position on the main square we enjoy this fabulous view over the loch and onwards to Loch Fyne, Arran and the Kintyre Peninsula.

The Crinan Canal also winds its way along the edge of our town.  Every year nearly 2000 boats make the journey along the 9 miles of "Britain's most beautiful shortcut" while many walkers, cyclists and joggers watch from the towpath. Once an important commercial connection with the Western Isles most of the traffic is now pleasure craft. We call the area 'Dalriada'- an ancient coastal kingdom at the Heart of Argyll.  The Crinan Canal links Loch Fyne at Ardrishaig with the Sound of Jura, creating a vital waterway through the Kintyre peninsula in the Heart of Argyll.

Our love of the sea and our coastal connection means we like to bring it into the shop, especially over the summer months.

In our No. 5 shop we currently have an ocean-coloured window display full of Jo Downs glass.  Based in Cornwall, Jo takes inspiration from the coastal landscape around her to create her unique designs and they make for some beautiful statement gifts.  Due to its individuality and handmade nature, we have only a small selection of Jo Downs glass online, but why not pop into the shop to have a closer look?

Mixed through our window display, we also have some spectacular hand-carved Archipelago birds.  Designed in Britain, Archipelago uses Fair Trade skilled carvers and sculptors to help create these stunning sculptures - made from sustainable wood and finished with lead-free paints – like this realistic oystercatcher, much like the ones we see hopping around the front green.

Archipelago also create equally realistic fish bunches, we have herring, mackerel, sardines, seabream… And this season Archipelago has also introduced a range of model boats that would be a great addition to any nautically-themed home.  You can browse our Archipelago seaside products here

Angela, who looks after No. 5, has a favourite fishy design that comes from Batela, one of our suppliers from Spain.  We stock the cushion, tablecloth and matching napkins.

Batela also has a stylish sea-inspired marine striped range of crockery as well as decorative pieces for indoors and outdoors, gifts and more.   Compliment the table with the Silver Fish Carafe and Glass and Fishes Tealight Holder (available in two sizes) from Gisela Graham.

Gisela Graham has also come up with one of our most popular coastal scenes, available on ceramic coasters, mugs, two different sized jugs, the larger of which makes for a very pretty vase, and gift boxed candles.
