Valentine’s day is February 14th – which is a Friday this year folks! Camps are truly divided on this occasion – it’s definitely a 50-50 split between those giddy romantics who make plans for the entire weekend and those who roll their eyes, or even close their eyes, when confronted with the hearts and cards. And we totally get it – not everyone is in a relationship – and not everyone in a relationship feels they need a date on the calendar to tell them when to be romantic, but we think that love is love, and there’s certainly worse things in the world to have a day of celebration for!
It’s all about showing that special someone in your life how much you care, a chance to show them what they mean to you and to show appreciation for all they do. It can be a great opportunity for new relationships too – there’s nothing quite like receiving an anonymous card from a secret admirer! The Valentine’s card is a definite must – even if you don’t do gifts, exchanging cards can be a lovely way of expressing what you feel and quite often they can effectively communicate a message that you might have otherwise struggled to put down on paper. If you’re feeling artistic then you could always make your own card – but if creativity is not your strong point then you might just want to take a look at our Valentines Cards instead!
So now comes the tricky part, to gift or not to gift? We think the most important thing to remember when considering your options this February is that nobody knows your partner like you do! We’re firm believers that it’s the thought that counts, no grand gestures required (although we’re sure they’re always well received too!) So our advice if you’re really stumped is to get them something you know they’ll like – you definitely will know your other half’s tastes when it comes to their favourite kind of chocolate or the kind of wine or beer that they prefer- so that’s a great starting point that works whether you’ve been married for 30 years or dating for just a few months.
However, if you do fancy venturing further down the Valentines gift line then the possibilities are endless! Remember that the classic gift ideas are those for a reason, tried and tested crowd pleasers – such as a meal out at their favourite restaurant, a dozen red roses or a cuddly toy. But if none of those are working for you then, naturally, we do have a few suggestions up our sleeves!
Number one on the list must be a photo frame – and you guessed it, we’re going to suggest personalising it with a picture! However, if couple selfies are not your thing, it could be a picture of a place that has special meaning to you or a significant event or memory. There are also some very clever companies out there who can provide you with all sorts of things of sentimental significance that are frame worthy – for example co-ordinates of a special place, or several plotted on a map, song lyrics, or even a map of the night sky on a specific date and time, all very simple but totally personal to you as a couple. We love this Jet Black Double Photo Frame from Sass and Belle, with a simple and sleek design and space for two pictures, it’s a firm favourite.
If it’s something more show stopping that you had in mind, then how about a sculpture? The Forever Together Double Heart Sculpture from The Libra Company is couldn’t be more perfect for Valentine’s day, it cuts an impressive silhouette and is sure to impress. It’s a bold statement but with gentle ribbon effect curves it is sure to sit well alongside any style of décor and with a name like that it ticks all the boxes.
Gifts for guys are always tricky but we have some really lovely ranges that would work well for Valentine’s day. The Lochranza range from Arran was incredibly popular over the Christmas period but thankfully we’ve replenished our stocks, just in time. The scent is a warm fragrance with a woody base of patchouli and vetiver, enhanced by the freshness of lemon and grapefruit. It is earthy and enigmatic and available in a variety of products. From a 100ml Eau de Toilette at £40.00 to a 100g soap in a travel tin at just £6.00.
Gifts for Her can be just as much of a minefield but we’re pretty sure we’ve got you covered. Our top pick for the lady in your life would have to be a piece of Pilgrim jewellery. Pilgrim Jewellery is Danish design fashion jewellery, every piece is silver, gold or rose gold plated and is all about dreams, style, heart and soul. It’s a big range, with many matching pieces all really well priced, so you could go for one statement necklace like the multi strand Brenna Necklace, or pick out a set like these Sophia heart studs and Sophia heart necklace.
