Mother’s Day will soon be upon us again and this special Sunday gives us the ideal opportunity to show our mums how much we love them and appreciate all that they do for us.

So this year, instead of sticking to the tried and tested flowers and chocolates offerings why not think about giving your mum something a little different this year? Here are my suggestions for gifts that are a little more unusual which we think mums everywhere will love.

The Ladybird Books for Adults

Anyone who remembers the Ladybird series of books from their childhood will be delighted to know that the genre is brilliantly updated with new titles specially written in a very funny way to appeal to grown-ups. The Ladybird Book of the Mum is the perfect laugh out loud accompaniment to a cup of tea. Why not look at some of the other titles in the series which include Ladybird guides to the Dog, Cat, Husband or even the Hangover (for if she prefers a glass of wine while she reads!) These delightful books are so easy to read and a lovely excuse for your mum to put her feet up and relax for a while – and isn’t that what Mother’s Day is all about?

The Sea Kelp Luxurious Gift Set

We all love a bit of pampering and if your mum isn’t able to get to a spa facility why not spoil her with a gift that pampers? Sea Kelp is a natural source of vitamins and minerals and is believed to have anti-ageing properties due to its iodine content. This gorgeous gift set contains body wash, body butter, soap plus hand and nail cream, everything your mum needs in fact for a luxurious home spa experience.

A Hug in a Mug

A simple but meaningful gift you can buy to show your Mum how much she means to you is a mug. Everyone loves a good hot drink, and no one can have too many mugs in their home! One mug that we think is perfect Mother’s Day is this Bohemian Stars Mum Mug, it has a beautiful design with a secret message on the inside of the mug.

 Stylish Scarf

Now that the weather is getting a little less cold it’s time to put away our thick woolly scarves but it’s still nice to have something around the neck to provide protection against springtime chills whilst still looking stylish. This elegant Betsy scarf in tangerine is the perfect solution. With a modern blossom design made from 100% polyester your Mum is sure to love wearing this beautiful scarf this Mother’s Day.

Give the Gift of Scent

Who doesn’t love their home to smell wonderful? and I recommend the Yankee Candle or Wax Lyrical range of scented products. Whether it’s the earthy aromas of Autumn Leaves and Patchouli or exotic Black Tea and Jasmine, or more delicate flower scents, these candles are presented in a glass jar that can be reused once the candle has reached the end.

Give the Birds and the Bees – and the Dogs and Cats!

I recommend the RSPB designed cosmetic bag which features pictures of various seabirds – a practical way to carry make-up and help our wild birds too. Dog lovers will adore the sweet Jack Russell doorstop by Dora Designs or the fun and quirky Ella the Dachshund doorstop. There are gifts for cat and bunny owners too and there is even a welly-wearing duck if that floats your mum’s boat!

What about a Woolly Treat?

Buy mum a lovely warm pair of gloves or mittens to keep her cosy throughout the chillier days or treat her to the ultimate in luxury with cashmere blend arm warmers for extra cosiness whether indoors or out.

Of course, as much as we love to buy mum a gift for Mother’s Day there are additional ways in which you can spoil her on her on her special day.

Breakfast in Bed

Get her day off to the perfect start by making her a scrummy breakfast in bed – or in the kitchen or the lounge if that’s what she prefers. Little ones especially love to take part in whipping up a breakfast meal so choose something that is quick and easy for them to make. Pancakes for instance are easy to put together and quick to cook and look impressive with either a simple maple syrup topping or with a mix of fruits like blueberries and raspberries. An even quicker treat could be boiled eggs – with soldiers of course – or just a bowl of mum’s favourite cereal. Whatever you decide to make, serve it up with a nice cup of tea or coffee, or a refreshing glass of fruit juice, all on a pretty tray with a small posy of flowers.

Treat Her to a Day Out

Spoil her with a day trip to one of her favourite attractions or simply to the seaside. Lots of attractions are open all year round so it should be easy to choose a trip your mum will love. If she is a keen gardener why not check out the National Trust’s choice of garden and stately home venues? And many larger garden centres have their own gift shops and cafés.

If you fancy travelling further afield then perhaps your mum would love a city break. Why not treat her to a day’s shopping in London with afternoon tea at the Savoy or Ritz? Or perhaps a day out in the historic city of York where she can enjoy a bracing walk around the ancient city walls followed by a visit to the famous Yorvik Viking Museum for an exciting step back in time.

There are so many ways to tell your mum how much you love her and whatever your budget I’m sure you will find that perfect something this Mother’s Day.
